Bannock County Commissioners, and Mayors Pledge Support for 2020 Census.
The start of the 2020 Census is a little under a year out and local government officials are pledging their support for the 2020 Census Count.
Recently, members of the Bannock County Commission and the Mayors of Arimo, Downey, Inkom, Lava Hot Springs, McCamrnon, Chubbuck, and Pocatello signed a county-wide proclamation affirming their commitment to being “a committed partner with the US Census Bureau in achieving the goal of a full and accurate 2020 Census count for Bannock County.”
Ahead of the Census beginning on April 1, 2020, the Bannock County Complete Count Committee will be working to educate citizens about the Census and encouraging them to complete their Census forms. In April 2020, citizens will have the option of responding to the Census online, by mail, or by phone.
The primary purpose of the decennial Census is apportioning the U.S. House of Representatives. Additionally, the count determines how more than $670 billion in annual funding from the federal government is distributed. This translates to approximately $1,470 per Idahoan counted, according to the US Census Bureau. The funding received goes towards schools, transportation, job training centers, senior and foster care centers, as well as medical assistance programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, and more.
