Planning & Development
Through effective, efficient, and equitable actions, the Planning & Development Department seeks to implement the vision of the City’s Comprehensive Plan to assist with the continued creation of a City that will consist of vibrant neighborhoods and exciting community spaces, a resilient and stable economic foundation, and offer a myriad of diverse opportunities to all. The Department, which is comprised of the Building and Planning Departments, continually strives to support this vision to enhance the quality of life for all Chubbuck residents, current and future, by:
- Strategically coordinating economic development activities with City departments, utilities, businesses, and applicable stakeholders;
- Performing careful community-based short and long range planning and evaluation;
- Providing efficient entitlement and permitting procedures for land uses, developments, and buildings; and
- Working collaboratively with elected officials, appointed boards such as the Land Use and Development Commission and the Chubbuck Development Authority, local organizations, and the general public to solve simple and complex issues.
Chubbuck Building Code Requirements
The City requires that the permits listed below be obtained for all construction projects within city limits. The adopted codes are listed below each permit. All applicable fees must be submitted with the Building and Mechanical Permit applications.

Land Use Planning has been enacted to protect the public health, safety and welfare by providing for compatible and harmonious uses of land within the jurisdiction of the City, by organizing uses to encourage growth consistent with a comprehensive plan, and by enhancing the aesthetic qualities of the community in the context of sound planning considerations.

Plan review fees will be charged on all commercial projects at 65% of the building permit fee.

BUILDING INSPECTION PROCESS
To schedule an inspection by the Building Department for a project with proper licensing and permits in place, you must call us at 208-237-2430 at least one day in advance. The following suggestions will help you with the inspection process:
Be on time and prepared for your sheduled appointment
Contact the Chubbuck Fire Department for fire code inspections
Be aware of applicable codes and ordinances in advance
CITY OF CHUBBUCK BUSINESS LICENSE INFORMATION
Before starting any type of business, home occupation, or land development, please check with our office to be certain your concept is compatible with City of Chubbuck Land Use Ordinances. We can save you considerable time and difficulty if you will check with us first via email or phone at (208) 237-2430.
License applicants are required to complete, at minimum, the following steps:
- Contact Planning Department to schedule meeting.
- Complete requirements and pay related fees.
- Pass criminal background check.
If so required, obtain and display business license.
- Each individual business license application is different due to the nature of the proposed business, zoning of the area where the business will take place and other considerations.
- The Planning Department is here to assist applicants with this process on an individual basis to ensure that your business is in compliance with all applicable local, state and federal codes.
